Three years ago SMBs were hesitant to deploy CRM, but that's not the case anymore said Paul Greenberg, Managing Principal of The 56 Group and Chairman of the CRM Evolution Conference. SMBs are recognizing they have to fight harder for customers than they ever had to before. With CRM and a host of additional factors such as cheaper shipments, web presence and cheaper creation of products, they can more easily acquire customers and compete against big guys, said Greenberg. To support the rise of interest in CRM, there's a multiplicity of products now available for small business, said Greenberg referring to the 60 new companies competing in his upcoming "CRM Idol" competition. Another reason for the growth of CRM in the SMB space is that the medium to enterprise market is reaching saturation with traditional CRM. Current CRM vendors are realizing that SMBs are a fresh market, and if they want to grow, they'll need to cater to them, Greenberg said.
